Lionfish is a band that slips easily from its acoustic guitar based roots to an electric edge. Lionfish's tapestry of sound ranges from rock grooves to pop tunes, with emotiotnal lyrics delivered with the amazing vocal prowess of L.P.
Alicia and L.P. have been writing songs together since meeting in London after graduating college. After fronting different styles of bands at home in New York City, the two started playing as Lionfish in 1995. They took the name after their zodiac signs, Leo and Pisces. Drummer Andy and bassist Jeff were added to fill out Lionfish's growing sound. Friends from the Berklee School of Music, they joined Lionfish after touring the U.S. and Europe. Lionfish's current line- up has been consistently drawing sellout crowds at their New York City shows while expanding their fan base with other shows on the east coast.
L.P. can be heard singing backup for David Lowery on the new Cracker CD ("Gentleman's Blues") due out this summer on Virgin Records. David calls L.P. the "female James Dean", and invited the band to his studio in Virginia to record a four song demo ("Trinket") that has just been released. The band's first CD, of eleven songs, "Too Much Love", has been selling Out as fast as they can be recorded. All the band's material and merchandise is available through their hotline number (212) 252-2107, and CD's are also available through Ladyslipper Music (919) 383-8773.
As Lionfish's reputation grows, they have found themselves working with such industry notables as Craig Street (Producer - K.D. Lang & Cassandra Wilson), Mick Guzowski (Mixing Engineer - Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson) Patrick Clifford (V.P. of A&R, Windham Hill/High Street/Private Music) and Eric Foster White (Writer/Producer). With their strong, material, emotional live shows and loyal fans, the buzz about Lionfish is steadily growing into a roar.
